DEG INTRODUCES HDTV GUIDE AT CEDIA EXPO 2006

DEG President Bob Chapek Also Unveils Latest Educational Initiative

DENVER (Sept. 15, 2006) – As a part of the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) Expo, DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group announced its new HDTV Guide as well as its latest educational initiative during the Annual Meeting & Membership Luncheon.

DEG President Bob Chapek, president, Buena Vista Worldwide Home Entertainment, announced the organization’s continued support for HD technologies as well as its decision to promote and serve as a clearinghouse for information on high definition.  This includes the recent production of a special consumer HDTV Guide that provides valuable information on a variety of subjects in an easy-to-read format.  It features such topics as what HDTV is; high definition viewing options; the differences in HD televisions; and how to connect an HDTV. This exclusive guide will come supplied in a variety of consumer electronics products and will also be available through participating retailers and CEDIA members.

“As the industry transitions to high definition technologies, consumers are adopting high definition televisions and, at the same time, embracing high definition content,” said Bob Chapek, president DEG and president, Buena Vista Worldwide Home Entertainment.  “The DEG is proud to provide useful tools that help the consumer learn more about how to maximize his/her high definition experience.”

The DEG recently collaborated with research analysts SmithGeiger LLC to conduct a benchmark study that interviewed nearly 1,100 HDTV owners and measured their attitudes, usage and behavior toward high definition.  The survey focused on a number of factors, including consumer awareness of next generation HD packaged media; HDTV programming; HDMI connectivity; and home networking capability.

The DEG research showed that consumers are enamored with HDTV.  In fact, 97 percent are satisfied with their sets and 59 percent say they are watching more TV as a result. However, the study also found that there is significant confusion among consumers.  Nearly one-third (28 percent) are unsure how their set is connected and, a mere 11 percent believe they are using HDMI – the optimal connection for receiving HD programming.  The DEG learned from the results of the research that there is a lack of understanding about the basics of HDTV, including how to connect an HDTV, prompting the need for creation of the HDTV Guide.

The DEG created this guide to help educate consumers about HDTV in hopes they will enjoy their sets to the fullest. The HDTV Guides are available on the DEG Web site at www.digitalentertainmentinfo.com, by calling the DEG Office at 310-888-2201 or through participating retailers nationwide.
