July 21, 2021 | Don Unser, Chief Retail Strategist at The NPD Group in 30 minutes shared his highest level insights on the overarching retail trends important to digital entertainment marketers.
Near-term considerations for digital entertainment marketers include millions of new workers working from home, the return of consumer spending on experiences, continued strong spending at retail- particularly bricks-and-mortar, time shifting back to normal family and work routines, and average sale pricing (ASP) outpacing unit sales in general merchandise, Unser said.
“There has never been a better time for higher-priced items in U.S. retail,” he said, sharing some of the reasons that U.S. consumers seem to feel they have much more to spend than in the past. These include high housing prices, low unemployment, personal savings rates at 20-year highs and reduced credit card balances.
