DEG Welcomes Verizon Business Group as a New Member : Q&A With Global Head of M&E Business Development Josh Arensberg

DEG caught up with Josh Arensberg, Verizon Business Group’s Global Head of Business Development, Media & Entertainment, to ask him about the company’s priorities.

DEG:     What is it that you enjoy most about working with the digital media industry?

JA:         What’s exciting for me is how our industry is shaping the world we live in. I think the digital media industry is the fourth industrial revolution. And like many revolutions, the main byproduct is democratization. Think how the blogosphere has allowed individuals to gain strength in numbers by crowdsourcing and funding. How we now have more influence on politics and corporations by making our voices heard and gathering support from like-minded people. There is a downside to this, but as someone once said, “The price of free speech is tolerance.” If you can say what you want, you have to listen to opinions you may not agree with. The digital ecosystem has created greater access to an audience and continues to enable leverage for more individuals and ideas, which is incredibly powerful. But with great power comes great responsibility. I am hopeful that we as an industry will use our power for good.

DEG: What are your company priorities in 2021 that are relevant to digital media?
JA: One of our main priorities is to increase awareness of our capabilities and illustrate how we’re accelerating innovation. We know that the media and entertainment business is not only hypercompetitive, but it is evolving rapidly. As an outcome enabler, we help our customers keep pace by providing the tools and technologies that enable them to transform the way they operate, deliver core services, protect intellectual property, keep fans and audiences engaged, and enhance end user experiences.

DEG: What is it that you most want DEG members to know about the company?
