Screen Engine/ASI Top 20 VOD Premiere Movies* 1.3.2021: ‘Soul’ and ‘WW1984’ Top List

January 4, 2021 | Welcoming the new year with a new and improved format, Screen Engine/ASI has upgraded its Top Watched VOD Premiere Movies list by providing a more detailed Top 10 rank by platform.  Beginning today, the Monday DEN DEN enews will contain breakouts of the top PVOD/EEST and SVOD titles, with a click-through to the combined Top 20 ranking here on the DEG website.

Consumer activity through January 3, 2021, shows SVOD titles occupying the top 10 spots on the chart, led by Disney+’s Soul and HBO Max’s Wonder Woman 1984. Because of widespread stay at home orders as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Soul premiered on Disney+ on Christmas Day rather than opening in theaters, and Wonder Woman 1984 got a simultaneous release in a limited number of open theaters and on HBO Max.  The top PVOD title is also the premiere of a major studio title that in non-pandemic times would have opened theatrcially: Universal’s The Crooods: A New Age, is at No. 11 this week, up three spots.

*Screen Engine/ASI’s weekly Top Watched VOD Premiere Movies list is based on the incidence of respondents from the syndicated weekly PostVOD^TM online survey saying they viewed in the past couple months a list of recently released VOD movies, including PVOD (Premium Video-On-Demand), EEST (Early Electronic Sell Thru), or SVOD (Subscription Video-On-Demand).
